Do you ever feel like you’re going in circles? Like the same issues keep popping up over and over again, no matter how many times you think you solved them? It feels like nothing in your business is changing and you haven’t moved any closer to achieving your goals.

If you’ve ever felt like this, you’re not alone. This is one of the most common pain points I hear from business owners and leaders who are struggling. They’re stuck. Never being able to move forward because they’re running in circles right where they are. Even though they are constantly busy, they’re never doing any of the good stuff or moving the business forward, just repeatedly putting out the fires of the day-to-day.

Push on Assumptions & Solve Issues at the Root

The cause? Trying to do the same things the same way you’ve always done them. It’s a common trap. As humans, we are creatures of habit. It can be so easy to do things the same because at one point it worked. But what might have worked when the business was smaller, might not be the right answer anymore now that the business has changed and grown. If you want different results than what you are getting, you have to try different solutions. As Albert Einstein said, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results.”

At some point, you have to stop putting out the fires and start working on solving what’s actually causing those fires. If we are always solving the issues right in front of us, we’re only solving the issues with duct tape and twine. Eventually, that duct tape and twine will be the only thing holding our business together and it’s going to implode. We need to get to the real root of the issue and make it go away forever.

“There comes a point where we need to stop pulling people out of the river. We need to go upstream and find out why they’re falling in.” – Desmond Tutu

Start Rowing in the Same Direction with the Entrepreneurial Operating System

If you and your business are in that never-ending circle, the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) can help you break free. EOS has proven processes that can help business leaders get unstuck by pushing on those assumptions, getting everyone on the same page, and heading in the same direction to gain traction.

Picture a rowboat. If everybody was rowing in a different direction, they might not be wrong independently, but they will never get to where they are trying to go—only continue to row in circles. You need everyone in the boat rowing the exact same way to move forward and make progress towards your goals. That is what EOS does. It gets everyone on your whole team on the same page with where you are going and how you are going to get there. It helps you clearly define that vision, have consistent processes and messaging, a healthy culture, and a new way to solve issues that will solve them for good.
